Service Disruption: nz1 – DDoS Attack

Even the holidays can’t bring out the best in some people, and people who like to take down servers are no exception. This Easter Monday at approximately 9:36am our nz1 server experienced a large DDoS attack. This DDoS attack was so great that it took down not only our server by pushing the CPU up to a load of 120 but also our hardware firewall and DDoS suppression equipment.

After finding out the issue, we had nz1 operating fully at approximately 11:13am.

We apologise for the inconvenience caused bu this disruption. Clients on eligible web hosting plans with an SLA will be receiving an account credit as per their SLA documentation.

Period of outage: 09:36am – 11:13am

Service Disruption: nz1, nz2, nz3 – Switch Outage

This morning at approximately 10:00am we experienced a short, 10 minute outage caused by parity errors on the core Juniper switches. Unfortunately, this also meant that approximately 30 minutes later, we had to reboot the switches to ensure a smooth connection was restored. Connection services were restored successfully.

Total time of outage: 14 minutes
Outage reason: Core switch problem

Service Disruption: 12-13 November

During this weekend 12th – 13th November we will be performing scheduled networking and power maintenance on servers in Timaru. No co-location servers will be affected however for some Vetta Technologies sites (including our helpdesk system) there will be a period where these sites will be offline for approximately 5 – 15 minutes.

We apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your co-operation.
